DBT is a treatment that focuses on changing maladaptive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by utilizing Eastern and Western Philosophy to enhance your ability to control your moods and impulses, tolerate distress, and better manage your relationships!
DBT is a skills focused treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington to treat individuals with EMOTION DYSREGULATION, which means individuals who have difficulties managing emotions on a daily basis due to both environmental and biological influences.
Skills To Be Learned : the Modules of DBT
Mindfulness skills focus on increasing your awareness of your self and your environment, emphasizing your ability to take hold of your thoughts and attention.
Distress Tolerance skills focus on increasing your ability to tolerate distressful situations by emphasizing Crisis Survival Strategies, Acceptance of Reality, and tolerating some of the most distressful emotions when the situation or emotions cannot be changed in the moment.
Emotion Regulation skills focus on identifying and understanding your emotional states, reducing your vulnerability to negative emotions, working to act opposite of your current emotions, problem solving emotional situations, and decreasing the intensity of your emotions.
Interpersonal Effectiveness skills focus on acquiring skills that will assist in accomplishing goals or getting what you want out of a situation while at the same time establishing or maintaining interpersonal relationships and improving or maintaining your self-respect.
